LinkedIn says there are 25,000 DevOps engineers in the United States and just over 66,000 globally. With 28 million small businesses in the US (Google) and approximately 200 million on the planet, how can every business be a software business? (There simply aren’t enough DevOps engineers to go around.)
At Harness, our vision is to democratize Continuous Delivery so businesses don’t need to fight for DevOps talent (and build software delivery automation from scratch).
Today, we’re announcing a new community edition to help every business get started with Continuous Delivery so they can get ship done.
Introducing Community Edition
Harness Community Edition is targeted at individuals, teams, startups, SMBs and even open source projects who want an “easy button” for Continuous Delivery.
We had many
arguments healthy discussions about what to include in Community Edition. We didn’t want to be that vendor that lures you in, and then knee caps you just as your two-week trial expires.
Community Edition is free forever (yes really) and includes many tasty features from our Pro edition like:
- Pipeline Builder, Workflow Wizards & Triggers
- GitOps & Pipelines-as-Code (YAML)
- Infrastructure Provisioning (Terraform & CloudFormation)
- Real-time Deployment Analytics
- Rolling, Blue/Green and Automated Canary Deployment Strategies
- Continuous Verification for open-source monitoring (AI/ML-based health checks)
- Automatic Rollback
- Secrets Management
- Single Sign-On (SSO) for Google, Azure, Github, …
Our community edition is also cloud-agnostic, supports Kubernetes, Helm, and Lambda as first-class citizens, and has a shipload of integrations for your favorite DevOps tools (e.g. Jenkins, Nexus, Artifactory, Terraform, New Relic, ELK, …).
Community Edition is limited to 5 users, 100 deployments/day, 10 services, 50 service instances and 7 days of historical data retention.
Getting Ship Done
Getting started with Community Edition is silly easy.
You can either play with our sample application, or you can start building your own deployment pipelines with wizards or code.
For example, it takes seconds to hook up your Continuous Integration (CI) and artifact repositories:
Once your repositories and artifacts are referenced, you can start building environments, workflows, pipelines, and triggers in minutes:
Harness Community Edition also supports more advanced Continuous Delivery (CD) capabilities like GitOps, secrets management, SSO, Continuous Verification and automatic rollback.
You can keep things simple, or you can dive right in and start building complex pipelines in minutes.
Continuous Verification for Open-Source Monitoring
With Community Edition we’re also giving away some of our secret sauce for free. Harness uses unsupervised machine learning to automate the process of verifying deployments by analyzing time-series metrics and application events from monitoring and log tools. So, instead of several engineers spending 20-30 minutes manually verifying performance and quality KPIs after a new deployment, Harness can automate this process, and if need be, automatically rollback the application if performance anomalies or quality regressions are found.
Given many organizations are using free/open source community monitoring tools like Prometheus, StackDriver and CloudWatch, we’re delivering all this support in our Community Edition for free.
For example, here’s a screenshot showing how you can auto-verify deployments using Continuous Verification and Prometheus/StackDriver:
A New Community (For The Community)
Today, we’re also announcing a new community which is open to all Harness users (Community & Pro), partners and employees:
Here you’ll find access to all the latest Harness news, topics, Slack discussions, best practices, and gossip.
It’s your chance to interact with fellow Harnessians, support the community ecosystem, and help influence the future of the Harness platform.
