How does

AWS

compare?

AWS offers foundational tools and services for cloud cost management, including cost allocation tags, cost anomaly detection, and tools for RI/SP management. However, these often require significant manual intervention and expertise to configure and manage effectively. In contrast, Harness CCM delivers an end-to-end cloud cost management solution that automates core processes like idle resource management, spot orchestration, and RI/SP contract execution. Harness provides deeper visibility, enhanced governance, and comprehensive FinOps capabilities, making it ideal for organizations aiming to enforce cloud cost optimization and governance at scale.

Detailed feature comparison

Harness CCM offers a fully-featured cloud cost management platform that automates key processes, provides advanced cost visibility, and enforces governance rules. With features like Automated Idle Resource Management, Spot Orchestration, and Automated RI/SP Contract Execution, Harness helps organizations optimize cloud spending, minimize waste, and streamline financial operations. AWS provides powerful tools for managing cloud costs, including support for cost allocation and savings plans. However, AWS’s native tools often require manual setup and maintenance, making them less comprehensive compared to Harness CCM's automated and scalable capabilities.

Multi-Currency Support: Harness CCM supports multi-currency configurations, allowing organizations to manage cloud costs in their local or preferred currencies while AWS lacks this feature.

Role-Based Access Control (RBAC): Harness CCM ensures secure and efficient management of cloud cost data by implementing role-based access control. Teams can define granular permissions, restricting access to sensitive data based on roles such as admins, finance teams, or engineers. AWS does not support this natively.

Custom BI Dashboards: Harness CCM allows the creation of custom dashboards according to organizational needs. Users can visualize cost trends, track key metrics, and gain insights into spend by project, team, or environment to make more informed financial decisions. AWS comes with abilities to create dashboards but in a limited capacity than CCM.

Cluster Orchestration on Spot Instances: Harness CCM simplifies cluster management by orchestrating workloads to leverage spot instances. By dynamically selecting optimal spot markets and implementing fallback strategies, the platform ensures high availability and significant cost reductions, making it ideal for containerized applications and Kubernetes clusters. AWS, although provides cloud cost management for AWS resources, it lacks the orchestration support for K8s.

Kubernetes Node-Pool Recommendations: Harness CCM provides actionable recommendations to optimize Kubernetes node pools. By analyzing workload patterns, it identifies the most efficient mix of instance types and sizes, ensuring better resource utilization, reduced costs, and improved performance across clusters. This is not provided internally in AWS Cloud Cost Management.
