Harness and Traceable are merging to create a new leader in secure software delivery. The combined company sets a new standard for software teams to seamlessly develop, deliver and secure applications.
Today, I have exciting news to share — our two companies Harness and Traceable are merging to form a brand new leader in DevSecOps, bringing software delivery and application security together in one unified platform.
For our customers, our teams and the industry as a whole, this represents an important step forward and an acknowledgement of how rapidly DevOps and security are converging, accelerated by the power of agentic AI.
For me, this is also deeply personal. Harness and Traceable both emerged from my startup studio, BIG Labs, and they were both started to solve problems I was passionate about. We first launched Harness to reduce the repetitive toil involved in software delivery. A few years later, we started Traceable as a separate company focused on improving application security. At the time, both businesses were standalone concepts with separate user and buyer personas.
But in the intervening years, things changed. Increasingly, when I walk into a customer meeting for Harness, they ask to block off the last 10 minutes to talk about Traceable and application security. Similarly, at Traceable meetings, they ask to set aside time to talk about DevOps and Harness. What’s clear is DevOps and security are coming together, as businesses seek ways to deploy software more efficiently, without compromising safety.
That’s why I’m thrilled to announce that both companies are coming together under the name Harness. Two businesses thriving on separate paths are now launching a journey to fundamentally change the software delivery landscape. This truly is just the beginning, and for our customers, employees and investors alike, the merger will bring significant benefits.
Software delivery is rapidly evolving. The world’s 37 million developers are writing more code than ever, and the pace keeps quickening, partly thanks to AI tools that reduce manual toil. That puts software teams in a bind. With the market demanding ever-faster innovation, they must balance the need for speed against the risks of shipping faulty code.
The industry’s “shift left” — the push to integrate security into the developer pipeline — is a response to that pressure. Increasingly, engineering and security teams are working together, and we’ll see more of this in the future. In fact, the new “DevSecOps” market is poised to grow almost 25% a year, to roughly $46 billion by 2032. All of which makes having a unified platform for software delivery and security mission-critical.
Then there’s AI, and agentic AI in particular — empowered agents with the potential to make software delivery faster, more secure, and even more enjoyable for developers. This technology is transforming software delivery, and we’ve been at the forefront, building a library of powerful AI agents inside our platforms. Along the way, we’ve also realized a key truth: AI agents are only as good as the data that powers them.
Together, a unified Harness and Traceable change the game by offering something unique. Harness has peerless insight into how apps are built, tested, and delivered, while Traceable brings deep knowledge of API usage and security. Pooling and sharing that data on a unified platform creates a multiplier effect — taking AI-native, agentic workflows to the next level.
The result is the new Harness: a first-of-its-kind platform that brings AI-native DevOps and security together to offer a streamlined, end-to-end software delivery experience.
For our customers, this means DevOps and application security are now seamlessly integrated into one platform. They’ll be able to get the best of both offerings, improving the speed and efficiency of software delivery while ensuring that application security is built into every step of the development lifecycle, from design to runtime. With our library of AI agents, this all adds up to a comprehensive software delivery platform that removes barriers to innovation and improves security across the SDLC.
For our amazing teams at Traceable and Harness, this also represents a significant milestone. What’s powerful about this merger is that both companies already share the same DNA: a high degree of customer focus, transparency, innovation and collaboration. Our new platform is a testament to the tireless work of those employees, and the full teams at both Harness and Traceable will continue their journey in the combined company. My co-founder and CTO at Traceable, Sanjay Nagaraj, will become the GM of Harness’ Application Security business, continuing to drive innovation, expand our security offerings, and deeply integrate them into the DevOps platform.
What excites me is that Harness and Traceable are both rooted in the startup-within-a-startup model, a tradition that will continue. At both companies, we’ve created innovative products by empowering small teams that are independent and accountable to benchmarks like performance, revenue and customer retention. We’ve also taken a modular approach to building our platforms, systematically rolling out new products on a continuous basis.
And both companies have enjoyed exceptional growth along the way. The merged business brings substantial momentum. With ARR north of $250 million projected this year — increasing more than 50% year-over-year — it’s one of the fastest-growing private companies of its size. That accelerates our march to reaching $1 billion in ARR as the consummate platform for software delivery.
To be clear, this is just the start — and I speak from experience here. When I sold AppDynamics to Cisco in 2017, it felt like the logical conclusion of a journey. However, in this case, Harness and Traceable coming together feels like the early stages of our odyssey. As yet another phase begins, under the Harness banner, I can’t wait to see where it takes us.
To all of our customers, employees and investors, including Unusual Ventures, Menlo Ventures and IVP, I want to extend a sincere thank you for believing in us and our vision and for your continuing support as we embark on the next era of Harness.
