Table of Contents

Hacktoberfest 2022 is finally here! Hacktoberfest is a month-long celebration of open-source software founded by DigitalOcean in 2014. Our celebration encourages participation from and brings awareness to the open-source community.

Harness and Open Source

At Harness, we strongly believe in open-source and the value it can bring to any organization. As a supporter of the open source community, we sponsor the Open Source Initiative, CD Foundation, and Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF). In addition, to the open source community, we currently offer tools under licensing for both free and open source software (FOSS) and free and source-available software. All of these are free for you to download, view, modify and run without paying license fees:

  1. Harness Continuous Integration Community Edition (powered by Drone)
  2. Harness Continuous Integration Team Edition, (powered by Drone)
  3. Harness Continuous Delivery Community Edition
  4. Harness Chaos Engineering Open Source Version

Focus on OpenFeature for Hacktoberfest 2022

Harness recently announced our participation in  OpenFeature, a new CNCF project working to standardize feature flag functionality and integrations across the industry. Participating in this project will help de-risk feature flags and let more engineering teams take advantage of world class feature flag tooling confidently.

This Hacktoberfest we are focusing on OpenFeature for all of our open-source SDKs. We want to get as many OpenFeature providers built as we can for our Feature flag SDKs. Providers are what connect our SDKs to the OpenFeature standard and let Feature Flag tools operate interchangeably, and we are happy to help any contributor who wants to lean in and support this exciting new CNCF project.

We are opening up a repo for each language we want to build a provider for, and we’ll have issues in the repos to guide the process.

How to Get Involved

Make sure you join the Hacktoberfest discussion on our community Slack channel to share ideas and ask questions. Don't forget to use @harnessio and #hacktoberfest on Twitter!

We have four main repositories (with more to come) to contribute to, feel free to grab an issue!
