Less than 6 years ago, two engineers took a chance on one big, crazy dream: to build a tool that would become the developer terminal for software engineering teams. Their vision was to level the playing field in terms of engineering efficiency and enable every organization to deliver software like the tech giants do. 

Today, that dream officially employs 500 full-time employees! This is a pretty incredible achievement, for a number of reasons. We started the year off at a humble 297 employees, and 11 months later we are sprinting past 500, with more open reqs than ever before! Almost doubling an organization is tough work, and not just for the recruitment team. Growing pains coupled with navigating the new hybrid work world is difficult for any business, but as we scale and define structure, we are immensely proud to look back at all our accomplishments that bring us where we are today.

One of our core values is Celebrate Together, and while we have some special things planned for the team, we thought it was important to highlight what this milestone means to our employees. Afterall, we wouldn’t be the company we are today without our most valuable asset – our people! 

Srinivas Rao | Founding / Distinguished Engineer (Employee #5)

How long have you worked at Harness?

4 years 8 months and counting!

What project/accomplishment are you most proud of?

As a founding engineer, I have played or worn different hats on a need basis. I have been part of designing, developing, selling, and supporting Continuous Deployment (CD). As a developer, I am proud of the critical modules Artifacts, Pipelines, Workflow, Triggers, and Template Library that I designed and developed. I transitioned from developer to technical lead to own a complete end-to-end delivery of CD. I have been part of the Tiger team, which is instrumental in designing and architecting the platform to simplify the user experience, make it easy to use, developer-friendly, and scale to tens of products. I am fortunate to be designing what the future of enterprise CD should be and how GitOps plays into it. The one thing that keeps motivating me is that I will play a role in our CEO’s vision to solve the complex DevOps problems with more developer-friendly solutions.

What does this milestone mean to you?

Wow. Excited and super happy. I never imagined that the company would grow from 5 to 500 employees in less than five years. This milestone means a lot to me, my family, Harness, and customers. It is unimaginable how we grew from a single product to a platform while ensuring top-notch culture, and transparency. Even after 4+ years – it feels like I just started working here, and I still have so much more to do. 

Graham Kirkland | Senior Recruiter – EMEA

How long have you worked at Harness? 

I joined harness in January 2021 when there were 300 employees.

What project/accomplishment are you most proud of? 

I am most proud of being part of the growth here in EMEA. On my first call, the team consisted of 12 people. Now, the call consists of 35 people across Sales, Customer Success, and Sales Engineering. We have also grown R&D in Belfast and Belgrade, with both these offices getting stood up in 2021 and growing from 0 to 35 folks.

What does this milestone mean to you? 

Reaching 500 people means a lot of things to me. What stands out is the commitment every person at Harness has in making it a success. It means that I am part of something that I can truly be proud of when telling people I work for Harness.

How long have you worked at Harness? 

4 Months as of November 12th.

What project/accomplishment are you most proud of? 

I’m most proud of the progress Harness is making toward open source. It’s really humbling and encouraging to be a part of a company pursuing growth in a way that truly does put the customer first. We do what we do to help make the lives of others better. Our pursuit toward the open source community is the next way we are doing this.

Going on 2 years!

What project/accomplishment are you most proud of? 

I would say my biggest accomplishment is being able to move from the TDR role to managing the TDR team. It allowed me to help others that were in my shoes build and grow into the role. I really enjoy being able to help others find their passion!

What does this milestone mean to you? 

It means we are achieving what we set out to do, which is to grow. We are growing, we are expanding, we are maintaining our culture, and we are diversifying our reach across nations. I love seeing us grow.

What project/accomplishment are you most proud of? 

I’m proud of every customer we have in LATAM and even more for working with our local amazing team. I think teamwork is very important because at the end of the day, we spent a lot of time together and I am so appreciative that I can count on the team’s support for anything I need. It’s amazing to Get Ship Done together! 

What does this milestone mean to you? 

Shows that Harness is continually hiring great people to grow consistently to be the biggest and best DevOps platform on the market.

I will have been at Harness for 2 years next month! 

What project/accomplishment are you most proud of?

As the second recruiter out of Bangalore, I have had the privilege of  helping build the founding team and help craft the story of the company. I can see the impact of my work building out the Engineering product groups in the multiple modules that now make up our product suite. Even in the competitive talent markets, I am proud to have helped build such a brilliant team!

What does this milestone mean to you?

Knowing that I am actively contributing to the success of the company is a great feeling and it is significantly impacting my overall satisfaction with the work I am doing.

What project/accomplishment are you most proud of? 

Building a team of great individuals that #rememberthehuman during a time of rapid growth, rapid change, and a crazy pandemic! Hiring great people and building our culture to match Harness values is key to our future success and scaling of the company as a whole.

What does this milestone mean to you? 

WOW – I can’t believe we got here so fast! I am so excited to reach 500 employees. I love how every org is growing and working together to build an incredible product, company, and customer experience. Can’t wait for the next 500!

How long have you worked at Harness? 

I am celebrating being a Harnessian for just over 2 years.

What project/accomplishment are you most proud of? 

I am working as Customer Success Engineer In the Customer Success Team. In short, I make customers happy and successful, helping them overcome any issues they face. I am most proud when customers praise our efforts in helping them and making them successful. While it’s a shared value across the company (Know Your Customer), living this value has helped me get the Star Award and President Club Award. Any time I am able to unblock a customer be it an easy or critical issue, I always feel proud!

What does this milestone mean to you? 

Reaching 500 employees is a big achievement! This reflects how fast we are growing and the impact we are making as a company. We will soon double the digits and celebrate more incredible milestones.

How long have you worked at Harness? 

This is my second stint at Harness! I was here for 2 years (2017-2019) + rejoined 6 months ago (June 2020-present). I returned because I was emotionally attached to what we had built and wanted to keep working on it to get it to a better point. It feels great to be back!

What project/accomplishment are you most proud of? 

I am so proud of the work we have done on our 24/7 Service Guard. I am excited about it since it helps developers to release the new version of their code faster and in a more reliable way.

What does this milestone mean to you? 

It means a lot. I was emotionally attached to this product and that’s why I came back to Harness. It’s an exciting experience to be part of this fast growing company and getting the opportunity to shape a completely new product. I feel I am learning and growing, and making a mark.

I am so proud of the team we have built and the work we have accomplished. Hitting our 500-employee mark at Harness in just 3.5 years of joining proved how aggressively our organization has grown and scaled even in the midst of a global pandemic.

What does this milestone mean to you?

I couldn’t be more honored of being entrusted to lead the People & Workplace function in this hyper-growth environment. But more importantly, I’m so proud of of each and every Harnessian in helping us achieve this monumental milestone together.
